Escala condominiums

1920 Fourth Avenue

Developer: Lexas Companies

Architect: Thoryk Architecture

Something-is-changing-at Escala-dot-com…could it be the ownership?

So when the bank owns your condo tower, do you get free checking? Just sayin’.

Do they have a basket of lollipops at the door and somebody waiting to ask us about our weekend?

I’m sure the views looking out are fantastic, but the views looking at, not so much. The glass tower plopped onto the faux Grecian Vegas facade is not the sort of enduring architecture dreams are made of. Design really can be better. Proof.

  1. Yes, yes, yes! That proof really is rad! I love how the building looks like it’s levitating. I like the lively, refreshing craziness of the design.

  2. I don’t see how the proof is proof of anything: it looks like another Dutch effort to be different for the sake of being different, not unlike the downtown library. It looks like a stack of houses, not like a whole building. It’s eye-catching and memorable, but I wouldn’t call it good.

Nevertheless, I always enjoy your postings.

  3. I’m sorry- my eye was immediately attracted to the lovley “Bed Bath and Beyond” banner. Too bad it has to hang next to such an ugly building.
