The hole

Another resplendent condo project gone belly up. From a parking lot to a mega-hole, and back to a parking lot (soon). Will there be another hole?

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of reverting to a parking lot, we had a below grade zen garden or fabulous sculptures a la Olympic Sculpture Park?

So, the luxuriously snoozy condo project isn’t happening. Okay Seattle, now is the time to be interesting, world class interesting. What do we really want downtown?

Seems we’re not that interested in another pseudo-lux, shiny but common building.

In the interim, since reality TV is all the rage, we suggest the show, What Can You Get Down That Ramp?!!, and it’s sister show, What Can You Get Up That Ramp?!!

I want to see a shopping cart derby sponsored by local retailers. Profits could go to charity and I could watch carts barreling down the ramp filled with precarious items like water balloons or fine glassware.

For the long term, I’d love to see a green space, possibly combined with small independent retail. Or, if I could really have anything, I’d love to see a multi level building with public green space below including local retail/restaurants and a roof dedicated to a pea patch for residents and neighbors.

This hole cries out to receive a shitload of stacked shipping containers to house the homeless. Could and ventilation holes be cut into them to echo the architerra grandeur of the hole itself.

Paved paradise, put up a parking lot. I worked across the street from the hole during it’s glory days and watched as the sidewalks became nearly impassable. I wasn’t thrilled to have another godamned over-priced eyesore going in but at least they didn’t tear down some historic and character-rich beauty. It was a nasty looking parking lot. Guess what – it’s now an upgraded parking lot! Took a while, but they got ‘er done. My co-workers and I thought they should put in an olypmic-sized swimming pool. The hole was dug for chrissakes.
